“Innocent” remixes out now on NRK

We’ve licensed the King Britt remix of “Innocent” to our friends at NRK in Bristol, England for a brand new 12″ release. They’ve backed it with a brand new remix by rising New Zealand superstar Magic J. This new mix is a brillant big room stormer, but still has a lot of deep, dubby elements. It’s good. Rumor has it a Joey Negro mix may also be forthcoming, and we’re really excited. For more info, visit the NRK website.

Q-BAM in movies and on TV

Q-Burns Abstract Message says: “You can hear about ten seconds of the my track “Enter/Other” in the trailer for the new Spike Lee movie “The 25th Hour”. The movie looks real good, too!

I’m reminded of the time I was playing funk tracks at the Blair Witch Project premiere party in New York City. At one point I looked up and Spike Lee was right in front of me nodding his head and gave me a quick approving grin. That’s one of my DJ career highlights (as I’m a big Spike fan).

Also, listen for an appearance of the old track “141 Revenge Street (Mess Of Afros)” in an upcoming episode of the TV show “John Doe”. It supposedly accompanies a thrilling chase scene which is perfect because that’s the image I had in my head when I recorded the song many years ago.”

Q-Burns Abstract Message on TV

We’ve been getting a lot of confused e-mails from people who are claiming to have had Q-Burns sightings on their television sets. Seems that in a certain public service advertisement involving a girl at a club going to a bathroom stall to call her parents, a quick glimpse of a familiar shoulder-bopping DJ can be seen. Well, we would like to confirm the rumors. This is indeed Mr. Q-Burns Abstract Message. In fact, the music playing in the commercial is the Q-Burns track “Total Maza” from the Eighth Dimension compilation “Selected Material”.

We were asked to be in the commercial by a friend of ours who was part of the production team. We appreciated its message of communication between parents and their children as a problem solver as opposed to the usual stereotypical and misinformed ‘drugs in clubs’ paranoia.

If you watch TV you’ll probably see it. This ad is playing all the time, almost way too much. After you see it, then reward yourself by visiting the EMDEF web site to learn what you can do to stop proposed anti-’rave’ legislation that is threatening our clubs and our freedoms.

You can hear all four mixes by launching the Rerouted listening party.

Q-Burns Abstract Update 02.18.02

I’ve been keeping super busy with gigs and production work. I’m in the studio this week remixing Fila Brazillia which I’m quite excited about, and have just finished mixes for Church Street Recordings and our new Eighth Dimension act Beef Wellington. Soon I’ll be in the studio putting together a bevy of new original tracks which I hope to be shopping around at Conference time.

Look for new releases of my remixes of Hawke’s “Party People” (a remix collaboration with Huggy), Thunderball’s “Stereo Tonic” on ESL, Trabant’s “Enter Spacebar” on Thule, and Burdy’s “Doobie Dada” on Sunshine. I’ve also done a couple of mixes for Brique Rouge, including Mazi + Colette’s “Do You Want Me” and Kram’s “Sweet Love” which should be out by the summer.

Winter Music Conference approaches and I’ll have tons to promote …. there will be a few new releases on test from my Eighth Dimension label, and the Re-Routed Part 1 remix 12″ with remixes by King Britt, Lovesky, Neon Heights, and Funky Transport will be the highlight. Speaking of Winter Music Conference, if you are planning a WMC party and would be interested in my drunken DJ shenanigans, feel free to contact me. It’s great to get funky in the sun, eh?

Q-Burns Abstract Update 12.17.01

Howdy everyone … I hope you are having a fantastic and relaxing
holiday season.

As for me, I am quite busy as usual, just finishing a bunch of new
remixes and currently on the Two Drunk Punks On Funk tour with Robbie
Hardkiss. Last week we DJed in New York City, Rochester NY, and
Toronto. This week we will be setting down in Washington DC,
Richmond VA, Baltimore MD, Pittsburgh PA, and Philadelphia PA. At the
end of the month, I’m looking forward to a big Orlando party right
after Christmas with DJ Garth and I at the Social/Sapphire. And, if
all goes well, I’ll be spending New Year’s Eve spinning records on a
far away Mexican beach.

For future plans, Robbie Hardkiss and I are to be in cahoots for a
midwest and west coast leg of our DJ tour which should start the last
week of January and run through February. Big thanks to Lotus
Magazine, Paul Frank, Stussy, and Dublab.com for their support and
help with our drunken DJ tour adventure.

On the remix front, I’ve just completed a couple of things for David
Duriez’s Brique Rouge label including remixes of the upcoming “Sweet
Love” by Kram and “Do You Want Me” by Mazi + Collette. I also
finished remixes of Lovesky’s “Come Back To Me” on Sunburn and
Thunderball’s “Stereo Tonic” on ESL. Lastly, I just completed a go-go
style remix of our very own Pimp Daddy Nash’s track “It’s A Wonderful
Life” which will be released on Modul in Germany early next year.
Yep, I’ve been quite busy here.

A bunch of people have also been remixing tracks off my Invisible
Airline album, and we are looking to put out a remix album on Eighth
Dimension at the beginning of Spring. Some of the remixers include
Lovesky and Thunderball as well as Doctor Olive, Tetris,
Funky Transport, King Britt, Hakan Lidbo, and quite a few others.
More details on this coming soon.

Q-Burns Update 10.2001

In these last couple of crazy + stressful months, I’ve been trying to
stay out there gigging and DJing all over the place. I figure my job
as funkymiester party DJ man is twice as important now as folks want
to get out to the clubs, get their minds off the news, and shake
their monkeymakers to some chunky new tunes…

So, in addition to recent appearances in Los Angeles, Portland OR,
New York City, and Baltimore MD, I’ve also been lucky enough to pull
off a three week, eighteen city Canadian tour. From Halifax to
Vancouver, you name a Canadian city and chances are I played there
sometime in the end of September. The tour was lots of fun, and
definitely an adventure.

I’d also like to announce that I’ve added a monthly residency for
myself at Sonar in Baltimore, which I am extremely excited about as I
feel it’s one of the best clubs in the US at the moment. This is
certainly an honor for your humble DJ.

Plans for December include the beginning of a DJ tour which
will possibly last well into the end of January and will see me
playing all over the country, in towns big and small. Seems I am
going to rent a van with Mr. Robbie Hardkiss and we will be driving
it rock n’ roll style all over the US doing gigs in what we’ve
tentatively called the “2 Drunk Punks on Funk” tour. We’ve booked gigs in places such as Austin TX, Atlanta, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Fayetteville Arkansas, Nashville, Boston, New York, and Toronto and we are adding many more dates in the coming week. I’ll keep everyone
posted.

On the release front, look for Q-Burns Abstract Message remixes of
Moses Leroy, Traktor, Kidney Thieves, Neon Heights, Doctor Olive, 4
Way Fanatics, Hawke, and Burdy. The 12″ release for the Q-Burns
Abstract Message album track “Shame”is out now, with remixes by Hakan
Lidbo, East Coast Boogiemen, and a new mix by yours truly. The Rivera
Rotation remix of my album track “This Time” is out on limited white
label release and will receive a full release in a couple of months.
Both “Shame” and “This Time” feature the lovely vocals of Lisa Shaw.
