This track’s about 18 years old, one of my earliest Q-BAM efforts. It’s based around three really blatant samples, two of which meshed together perfectly after a bit of noticeable slowing down (in the case of one sample) and speeding up (in the case of the other). That’s also me doing some effected turntable ‘scratching.’ I heard this played in the chill-out room of a club once, the DJ spinning the record at 45 RPM, turning it into a breakbeat track with a normal pitched vocal. Anyway, a bit of a melancholy stoner vibe going on here … this originally appeared on the Eighth Dimension Records compilation Mixed Emotions which came out in 1995.

A bit of spring cleaning here at the Invisible HQ as we work in tunes that we’ve been meaning to include over the past several months, mingling with a few brand new goodies and qualifying contenders. This makes for quite an eclectic DJ mix and, indeed, one that starts at a speedy pace, gradually descending to a sexy stomp. Recently Scott Hardkiss let me hear a remix he recorded for the Brooklyn-based psychedelic rock combo The Veda Rays. I was quite taken aback at how cool it was, and loved how the gentle, wistful vocal refrain interacted with Scott’s rhythm-scape. However, I was hearing the song as more like a dream, where the hypnotic groove beckoned the listener into the track, only to be greeted by the vocal at the halfway mark. So I constructed this re-edit of Scott’s remix where the vocal is teased (and spaced out a bit) before it finally makes its appearance. Check it out here:

I can’t take a lot of credit as pretty much everything you’re hearing is that of either The Veda Rays or Scott Hardkiss. I just did some re-arranging and extra echoey bits. That said, I’m pretty stoked about this cut and I’ve been having a lot of fun including it in my dreamier DJ sets. It’s available from Beatport right now.

Let’s be clear. Traversing mountainous landscapes through foreboding passageways is no comfortable feat, especially with eye-riddled crags watching one’s every move. Easily emerging to the other side is a goal often thwarted by rockslides, chasms, and rushing waters contaminated with noxious poisons. To be fleet of foot, agile in the face of adversity, is indeed paramount. Now, with that nonsense out of the way, I welcome you to February’s Invisible Airwaves mix show. Last night’s Replicated art show at The Falcon in Orlando was a blast. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Blade Runner, the exhibition presented a variety of artists’ works using the iconic film as inspiration. The artwork is still there and is quite cool, so pop on by to have a peak until March 2. I supplied the soundtrack to the show, filling the first two opening hours with a session also inspired by the music, vibe, sounds, and dialogue from Blade Runner. As requested by many who were there, I’m making a recording of this session available to download. Keep in mind this isn’t your normal DJ set … this one was intended to create an appropriate atmosphere for viewing the art work. It’s quite moody and very electronic with a few unexpected moments.
