The summer heat is sweltering and our air conditioner is on the fritz here at Q-BAM HQ. There’s no better way to calm us down then with the icy mix of tunes that make up this month’s Invisible Airwaves. I’ve assembled loads of top cuts from already favorite labels as well as some recent discoveries, and have been able to piece a couple new Q-Burns Abstract Message remixes in the set. You’ll notice the tempo builds then retreats, eventually submerging itself in the cool waters of some lush deep house. It’s a mix that we’re well into and are hoping that you’ll enjoy also. Here’s the track list:
Space Ranger – Phase Fever – Lovemonk Yello – Bostich (Fred Everything’s Lazy Day Remix – Version 2) – Lazy Days Recordings Erodiscotique – Downtown – Gomma Magnum Force – Cool Out (Linntronix Refresh) – Grande Buffo Woody McBride – Guten Time (Luke Solomon’s Stripped Mix) – Full Flavor Music Paul Hardcastle – 19 (Nacho Marco Remix) – New State Music DJ Mourad – Sea of Soul (Vikte Remix) – Nice & Nasty Records Pair of Dirty Shoes – Say That (Q-Burns Abstract Message Remix) – SOWAT Music Chemical Warfare – Temprano – 3am Recordings Marius – Never (Q-Burns Abstract Message Remix) – Big Mama Records 2 Billion Beats – The Moodymann – Paper Recordings Hansi – Brazillian Groove – Spring Strut Tovar – Nojazz – Pin Up Recordings Incarnations – Make You Mine (Wareika Remix) – Lovemonk Silt – State of Mind – DeepWit Recordings Downtown Party Network – We Are Cats (Mario Basanov & Vidis Redo) - Loudeast Choklate – Break My Heart (Session Victim Remix) – Surround Sounds Niko Schwind feat. I just stumbled upon this DJ mix by Reno-based DJ Ctrl-Alt-Delete as posted on the Chillbass music blog (“created to promote DEEP, MOODY, AND BASS HEAVY music!”). Not only did Mr. Ctrl-Alt-Delete include two tracks from my Invisible Airline album but he accompanied them with cool cuts from the likes of Burial, DJ Spooky, and Moby. I’m honored. Give the mix a listen here:
The summer approaches for us northern hemispherians, inspiring a decidedly eclectic episode of Invisible Airwaves. This mix spirals and backflips as it touches on funk, disco, low-tempo house, and even a bit of psychedelic rock. Here’s your soundtrack to an impending season of swaying palm trees and fruity drinks in tiki glasses. Terrific tunes abound with many new track, label, and artist discoveries (at least to me). I’m told April showers will eventually bring May flowers, but for now we’ll have to contend with the latest episode of my Invisible Airwaves radio show. It’s another jam-packed mix as, once again, I encountered too many outstanding tunes in the past month to fit in my allotted two hours. This makes for what I think is a gripping selection, perhaps one of my personal favorites out of the sixteen installments we’ve had so far. Evidence? Here’s the ‘choon!’-filled track list:
Mid Air – Ease Out (The Revenge Edit) – Z Records Julian Sanza – Fired Up – Solardisco Neighbour feat. Think Tank – Lando (Tal M. Klein Remix) – Homebreakin Records Luminodisco – Questo Amore Splendido (Space Ranger Remix) – Danny Was A Drag Queen Ivan Enot – Bonjour Tristesse (Latecomer Mix) – Conya Waterson – When You Tell Me That You Love Me (Ashley Beedle’s Act Of Dub Mix) – Axis Trax Diego Moreno – The Pain – Digital Delight Data MC – Fever (Phonique & Tigerskin Remix) – Goodman Globe Affi Koman – Blood From A Stone – Rememory Music Crimea X – 10 PM (Alex Smoke Remix) – Hell Yeah Recordings Amit Shoham – My Favorite Things (Blakkat’s Idreamofmoni Mix) – Noice! Some intentionally watery (and slightly naughty) remix action, this time inflicted upon Colorado’s Gazeebo for their NC-17 rated Adults Only series. My latest trip is imagining a flowing river as I work on my productions, having the musical elements develop and dissipate naturally, like floating past structures on the shoreline. I’m playing some big, bouncy bass guitar run through a who-knows-what effect, its riff sort of being the melodic anchor. Staccato synth arpeggiations flow (yes) in and out and I’m happily able to include some cheap-sounding string pads. Head-bobbing beat-smith and a slinky disposition meet underneath a flashing red neon light. You’re never too old to get carded at the door at this club. Have a listen:
March is the month where we in the northern hemisphere get a glimmer of nicer weather, a bunch of DJ types are hoarding fresh tunes in hopes to impress at some annual party pile-up in Miami, and I have a little Q-BAM b-day. As possibly expected, I’m also presenting yet another Invisible Airwaves mixshow, the fifteenth episode if you can believe, and I’ve been able to line up our usual assortment of brand new tunes that have found coveted homes in the virtual DJ crate. Goodies galore … here’s the track list:

February is now in our hearts, and here’s a brand new Invisible Airwaves radio show for your consideration. Once again it’s an eclectic selection though we spend the first three quarters in a housier realm than we did the last time around. Everything in this mix is brand new or about to hit the shops … there’s so much good music already out in 2011 it’s been hard fitting everything in. Just check out the action packed track list below:

Today I’ve found myself listening repeatedly to this DJ mix put together by Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti as part of The Quietus mix series. You may know Chris & Cosey for their extensive discography as a duo, and you may also know them as one half of iconoclastic musical heroes Throbbing Gristle. TG were especially influential to me as a teenage lover of all things musically controversial and I completely wore out copies of their various albums (as well as my tattered edition of the Industrial Culture Handbook of which their interview was a highlight). This exceptional mix betrays Chris & Cosey’s unique historical perspective on music recent and past and will be the background soundtrack to many future days of work here at Q-BAM HQ. Enjoy:
I’m launching 2011 with a whole new series of Invisible Airwaves shows and a new theme song (an edit of the Balearic Version of “Chainsaw,” if you wanna know). This mix gives baby new year a gentle spank with a selection of tunes that are slower in tempo than usual as well as a bit more melancholy in vibe. I usually find myself a bit reflective at the beginning of January and this episode reflects that. I hope you enjoy it! Here’s the track list:
