This Saturday: Marcelo Medeiros at Crooked Bayou

Last July I had the pleasure of embarking on a three week DJ tour of Chile and Brazil, playing almost ten DJ dates in the midst of plane rides, sightseeing, and friend-making. One of the cities I visited for the first time was Curitiba in southern Brazil. It's quite an urban, developed metropolis full of cool architecture and yummy Italian restaurants. It's also the home my buddy Marcelo Medeiros, who runs the Discotheque radio station and record label, and who served as my able tour guide the twenty four hours I spent in his city. I know Marcelo as I he broadcasts my monthly Invisible Airwaves show on his Discotheque Radio (which transmits worldwide via their web site … check it out - www.discothequeradio.com). It's possible that you remember Marcelo from almost exactly a year ago when we presented our Springtime In Brazil party at Sky60. Marcelo guested and provided an expertly mixed set of deep house and vocal tracks, featuring many producers and tunes from the country of Brazil.

This week Marcelo Medeiros has returned to Orlando for a bit of fun, sun, and theme parkin' and thus we're happy once again to host him for another house music shindig. This time we're taking over Crooked Bayou, on this upcoming Saturday night, for a dose of top quality house music, Brazilian and otherwise. I, Mr. Q-Burns Abstract Message, will be joining Marcelo for this evening of tunes as well Rob Slac of Chillin Music. There's no cover, it's 21 and up, and the music will start about 10:00 PM. You can count on great friends, atmosphere, and lovely tunes perfect for dancing or chilling out while enjoying your tater tots and/or stiff drink.

This all takes place this Saturday night, October 2, at Crooked Bayou located at 50 East Central Blvd., Orlando, FL 32801, (407) 839-5852. Click HERE for a map or directions. RSVP via our Facebook by clicking HERE. We'll see you on Saturday night!

P.S. - Also, if you didn't know already, I'll be joining San Francisco/Montreal DJ Fred Everything and Atnarko at The Peacock Room the night before, Friday, September 1. It will be a great weekend for house music in Orlando!

This Saturday at The Peacock Room with Pezzner

This Saturday night (September 5) there's a super-cool party happening at The Peacock Room in Orlando. Local deep house label Chillin Music is having its 5 year anniversary party and to mark the occasion they're flying recent collaborator Pezzner in from Seattle. I'm not sure if you know about Pezzner, one half of eccentric house music duo Jacob London, but he's one of my favorite working producers. His recent efforts for labels like Om Records, Freerange, and Urban Torque are inspirational, making him one of the few that I'll always check when seeing his name attached to a track. Rest assured you will hear some fantastic, forward-thinking house music playing in his set this Saturday ... sounds that should please the brain as well as the feet. I'm psyched.

I'm also psyched that I, Mr. Q-Burns Abstract Message, will be playing my own crazy tunes beforehand. And Chillin Music boss Rob Slac will be on hand for his own opening DJ set. Sweet.

So, yes, this happens this Saturday night at The Peacock Room, located by the corner of Mills and Virginia. Click HERE for a map. The cover is $6, it's 21 and up, and there should be some music giveaways for the early birds. Don't miss.

By the way - if you feel like heading out on Friday night as well then The Peacock Room is your choice destination once again. DJ BMF will be heading up a Phat N' Jazzy 'The Early Years' party where you'll hear all the tunes played at the onset of the 15 year old Phat N' Jazzy party ... all those amazing 'acid jazz' and 'downtempo' tracks he used to rock at Barbarella in the early 90's. I'm quite excited about this as well.

So, I suppose I'll see you at The Peacock Room on both nights!

Friday Night: Solid at AKA Lounge, Orlando

Right on, everybody ... you may remember a time when a little party called Holy Frijoles! (the precursor to another little party called ¡Club Queso!) was hosted in downtown Orlando at a curious upstairs spot named AKA Lounge. It's a cool club right by the corner of Pine and Magnolia, with steps leading up to a roomy, dark space tailor-made for dancing and drinking and the sorts of activities one does in nightclubs when funky tunes are playing.

And thus it's been a while since I've played there myself ... but this Saturday I'm revving up the wayback machine and returning to AKA Lounge to help launch a new regular night of house music mayhem titled Solid. I'll be joined by a trio of associates, Rob Slac, Edson Xavier, and John Stuart, as we load up the tunes and fling aural goodness out onto the floor for all dancing feet to behold.

AKA Lounge is located at 68 E Pine St, Orlando, FL 32801 (click HERE for map). The flyer can be found below with all sorts of information. I'll also be bringing some copies of my mix CD from last Friday's ¡Club Queso! party in case you didn't get one ... just ask.

We’ll see you on Saturday at AKA Lounge ...
